Apple Fritters

Ingredients

  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Step 2: In another bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Step 3: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Step 4: Fold in the diced apples until evenly distributed in the batter.
  5. Step 5: In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  6. Step 6: Using a spoon or small ice cream scoop, drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
  7. Step 7: Fry the fritters for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Step 8: Remove the fritters from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  9. Step 9: Dust the warm fritters with powdered sugar if desired, and serve immediately.
