This tender and flavorful BBQ pulled pork is perfect for sandwiches and is a crowd-pleaser at any gathering.
Ingredients
- 4 lbs pork shoulder (also known as pork butt)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup BBQ sauce
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 8 hamburger buns
- Coleslaw (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Step 1: Rub the pork shoulder with olive oil to coat it evenly.
- Step 2: In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper.
- Step 3: Rub the spice mixture all over the pork, ensuring it is well coated.
- Step 4: Place the pork in a slow cooker and pour the BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, and chicken broth around the meat.
- Step 5: Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
- Step 6: Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks.
- Step 7: Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir it into the juices.
- Step 8: Allow the pork to soak in the juices for an additional 30 minutes on the warm setting.
- Step 9: Serve the pulled pork on hamburger buns with a side of coleslaw, if desired.
