A tangy and sweet homemade BBQ sauce perfect for grilling or dipping, with a hint of smokiness and spice.
Ingredients
- 2 cups ketchup
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
Instructions
- Step 1: In a medium saucepan, combine the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar over medium heat.
- Step 2: Stir in the honey, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, and Dijon mustard until well combined.
- Step 3: Add the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper if using.
- Step 4: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Step 5: Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and flavors meld.
- Step 6: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the BBQ sauce cool to room temperature.
- Step 7: Transfer the sauce to a clean jar or airtight container and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before using to allow the flavors to develop further.
