This rich and moist chocolate cake is perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth and impressing guests with its classic flavor and creamy frosting.
Ingredients
- 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 and 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Step 3: Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
- Step 4: Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth and thin.
- Step 5: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Step 6: Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Step 7: For the frosting, beat the softened butter in a large bowl until creamy.
- Step 8: Gradually add the powdered sugar and heavy cream, mixing until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.
- Step 9: Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top.
- Step 10: Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting.
