Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, this classic fried chicken is a comforting and delicious dish that's perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 4 chicken thighs
- 4 chicken drumsticks
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 quart vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Step 1: Place the chicken pieces in a large bowl and pour the buttermilk over them, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Step 2: In a large shallow dish, combine the flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
- Step 3: Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing the excess to drip off, and dredge each piece in the seasoned flour, making sure to coat it well.
- Step 4: Heat the vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Step 5: Carefully place the chicken pieces in the hot oil, being sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry in batches if necessary.
- Step 6: Fry the chicken for about 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the skin is golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
- Step 7: Remove the fried chicken from the oil and drain on a wire rack or paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Step 8: Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving to ensure maximum juiciness.
