Classic Lasagna Bolognese is a hearty, layered pasta dish filled with rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and gooey cheese.

Lasagna Bolognese

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Step 2: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and pork until browned, then drain excess fat.
  3. Step 3: Add onion, garlic, carrot, and celery to the meat and cook until vegetables are soft.
  4. Step 4: Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 20 minutes.
  5. Step 5: While the sauce is simmering, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions, then drain.
  6. Step 6: In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese with the egg and a pinch of salt.
  7. Step 7: Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a 9x13-inch baking dish, then layer with noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and Parmesan. Repeat layers ending with mozzarella and Parmesan on top.
  8. Step 8: Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is golden and bubbly.
  9. Step 9: Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
