Ingredients
- 4 pieces of chicken (legs, thighs, or breasts)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Cooking spray or olive oil
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Step 2: In a large bowl, soak the chicken pieces in buttermilk for at least 1 hour (or overnight in the refrigerator) to tenderize and flavor the chicken.
- Step 3: In another bowl, mix together the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
- Step 4: Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing the excess to drip off.
- Step 5: Dredge each piece of chicken in the flour mixture, making sure to coat it thoroughly. Shake off any excess flour.
- Step 6: Place the coated chicken pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a greased wire rack.
- Step 7: Lightly spray the chicken with cooking spray or drizzle with olive oil to help it crisp up in the oven.
- Step 8: Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 75°C).
- Step 9: Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving.
