Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- Optional: sliced pickles, shredded cheese for serving
Instructions
- Step 1: In a large skillet, over medium heat, add the ground beef (or turkey) and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
- Step 2: Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet, cooking until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
- Step 3: Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, mustard, and season with salt and pepper.
- Step 4: Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Step 5: While the mixture is simmering, toast the hamburger buns if desired.
- Step 6: Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the bottom half of each bun.
- Step 7: Top with sliced pickles and shredded cheese if using, then cover with the top half of the bun.
- Step 8: Serve immediately and enjoy your Skillet Sloppy Joes!
