Teriyaki Salmon

Ingredients

  • 4 salmon fillets (6 ounces each)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup mirin (Japanese sweet rice wine)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger to create the teriyaki marinade.
  2. Step 2: Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over the fish. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more flavor.
  3. Step 3: Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat.
  4. Step 4: Remove the salmon from the marinade, reserving the marinade for later.
  5. Step 5: If grilling, place the salmon skin-side down on the grill. Cook for about 6-8 minutes, then flip and brush with reserved marinade. Cook for another 4-6 minutes or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork.
  6. Step 6: If baking, place the salmon on a lined baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, brushing with reserved marinade halfway through.
  7. Step 7: Once cooked, remove the salmon from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes.
  8. Step 8: Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
