A classic Italian dessert, Tiramisu is a luscious and creamy treat layered with coffee-soaked ladyfingers and rich mascarpone cream.
Ingredients
- 6 large egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese
- 1 1/2 cups brewed espresso, cooled
- 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)
- 24 ladyfingers
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ounce dark chocolate, shaved for garnish
Instructions
- Step 1: In a medium saucepan, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until well combined.
- Step 2: Add the milk to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly, about 8 to 10 minutes.
- Step 3: Remove from heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature.
- Step 4: In a large bowl, beat the heavy cream and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
- Step 5: Gently fold the mascarpone cheese into the whipped cream until smooth.
- Step 6: In a shallow dish, combine the brewed espresso and coffee liqueur.
- Step 7: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the espresso mixture and place them in a single layer in a 9x13 inch dish.
- Step 8: Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Step 9: Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone cream.
- Step 10: Dust the top with cocoa powder and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Step 11: Before serving, garnish with shaved dark chocolate.
