A classic Italian dessert, Tiramisu is a luscious and creamy treat layered with coffee-soaked ladyfingers and rich mascarpone cream.

Tiramisu

Ingredients

  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups brewed espresso, cooled
  • 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ounce dark chocolate, shaved for garnish

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a medium saucepan, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until well combined.
  2. Step 2: Add the milk to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  3. Step 3: Remove from heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature.
  4. Step 4: In a large bowl, beat the heavy cream and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  5. Step 5: Gently fold the mascarpone cheese into the whipped cream until smooth.
  6. Step 6: In a shallow dish, combine the brewed espresso and coffee liqueur.
  7. Step 7: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the espresso mixture and place them in a single layer in a 9x13 inch dish.
  8. Step 8: Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the ladyfingers.
  9. Step 9: Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone cream.
  10. Step 10: Dust the top with cocoa powder and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  11. Step 11: Before serving, garnish with shaved dark chocolate.
